Installation of Niche in the Wesleyan galleries, 1979. My Vim microcomputer controlled winches that changed the shape of a tent (made of old sails) that filled the gallery; the computer also produced sound that reflected the change in acoustics as the tent moved. The computer raised points on the tent by reeling in ropes, and lowered them by releasing clutches that let the cloth drop freely -- this photo shows a part of the tent collapsing as the clutch is released.
